Este foi o primeiro disco dos Stones após o aclamado Exile on Main St.. Goats Head Soup, embora irregular e menos inspirado que os anteriores, foi uma produção mais polida do que Exile e reflete o ressurgimento da soul-pop e a ascensão do funk e do glam rock, mantendo o som dos Stones um rock distinto.
